VMware Cloud Provider Platform – Rubrik and VMware vSphere / vCloud Director Reference Architecture
The VMware Cloud Provider Platform continues to expand with strategic ecosystem partners that provide a distinct service delivery platform. In this diagram, we can see Rubrik’s data management platform as a monetizable delivery vehicle for on-premises vSphere and multi-tenant vCloud Director (vCD) platforms.
Benefits to the VMware Cloud Provider Platform and Rubrik architecture:
- Declarative SLA Domains – ability to automate the initial ingestion of data and propagation to other data locations.
- Protection at a vCD Organization level – Rubrik natively understands vCD constructs and directly calls upon the existing hierarchy to achieve secure multi-tenancy.
- Flexible Backup and Recovery Model – from partial vApp recovery, instant recovery, and file-based restoration, a tenant or provider has an intuitive experience on ensuring Recovery Point and Recovery Time Objectives are met.
- Rubrik User Interface (UI) Plugin for vCD – a native UI plugin resides inside of vCD platform to allow for provider and tenant control. This provides a seamless, self-service experience that mitigates “console-hopping” or complex network requirements.
First, VMware recommends building the Cloud Provider Platform based off of the VMware Validated Design for Cloud Providers. This design has been comprehensively tested and validated by VMware to ensure for a successful operating model.
